Parent Teacher Organization

PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization. It is a partnership between the teachers, staff, students, parents, and the community working together to provide fun, friendship, activities, and more to every student and their family.

All families are very welcome at PTO meetings always. The monthly meetings take place in the library and generally occur early in the evening on a Monday. Check the Riverdale calendar for the next one. At every meeting, either free childcare is offered or children can explore an activity in the library.

The PTO offers many ways to volunteer and get involved at the school. With the Riverdale PTO, there are opportunities for volunteers to work different or specific events such as Shiverdale and the spring family night, to be on a committee(s), or to serve as a board member (1 - 2 year commitment) and help plan the meetings/events for the entire school year(s).

Our organization for our board members is unique. We don't have the president, treasurer and other positions that other schools often do. Instead, we are all equal and the board members vote on ideas and approve them by majority consent. This is one of the reasons why it is so important to get more board members; we want more people in the decision making process and we value the opinion and experiences of others.
