Update on Riverdale bond-funded playground improvements

Dear Riverdale Parents and Guardians,

We hope you are enjoying the improvements made to our school this past summer as part of the 2016 Bond Program, including the beautiful new building front and landscaping that has truly transformed the exterior look of our school! We continue to be thankful for the community’s support of the bond and making these changes possible at Riverdale.

You may have noticed the fencing around a portion of our playground. This summer’s playground work, which included the installation of a new wood mulch play area material, was originally expected to be completed for the start of this school year. However, during the construction process our contractor became aware of a foundational issue which needed to be addressed to ensure the safety of our students.

We recently identified a solution to this issue and we are working with our contractor on the design and construction of additional improvements. I am very pleased to share with you the plan includes new and safer equipment for this area of our playground! We are grateful to school district bond leadership for understanding the importance of these improvements and allocating additional bond money to make them happen.

We also want you to know that this does not affect our entire playground and students still have a lot of play options. These include:

  • Swings
  • Ball field
  • Running track
  • Basketball goals
  • Four square court
  • Soccer field
  • Newer play structure (installed two years ago)

We believe it is important to take the time to have these improvements made properly and ensure a quality play environment now and for future. Thank you for your patience and partnership in creating and maintaining a quality facility for our students!
